We still need a couple more hours to get to half a billion.
And YES, there is a Ferrari 499, but I will not be the one to associate this effort with a Ferrari. So here’s the team Lambo, instead:

I just got a big chonk of a WU for ~240k which is pretty much going to be folding until midnight. Finally broke 10M myself overnight, it’s gonna be a looooooong time before I can add another digit and break 100M...

I just added some horsepower - I got my old laptop back up and running. It’s a Core i7-3840 @ 2.8 GHz with 16 GB RAM and a Quadro K2000M. I have no idea what it’s capable of yet since I just started F@H on it and am waiting on work units. My main rig is pushing around 900k PPD, the CPU only on the new laptop should get close to 20k PPD, I’m hoping the GPU can do at least 100k PPD and get me solidly over 1M PPD.
When I’m actually getting work units I can push almost 1M PPD and the other laptop should ad

Likewise, to see us in the top 100 teams. Last I looked, the 100th place team had about 4.2 billion points.
I’ll be mailing out the stickers tomorrow. Six of them going to Cannuckistan.

I just removed the F@h client from my laptop because it was not producing. And the laptop isn’t exactly a slouch...

Well, I finally got a GPU work unit, and it’s amazing how far technology has come. The old laptop is 8 years old. It’s doing about 22 k PPD. My new laptop which is only a few months old is 900k PPD. So in 8 years we’ve moved up almost 2 order of magnitude. Pretty crazy!!!
Part of the problem is the laptop has a Quadro card, which is a workstation card and it’s more of a multipurpose card that does both FP and vector calcs. F@H relies on almost exclusively vector calcs, which is where the gaming cards shine. So even though the workstation cards are arguably more powerful/robust, in this case they get overshadowed.

900k ppd on a laptop??
I have a 1060 gpu in a workstation doing about 500k ppd.
I had a Quadro card also, which was great for everything I needed except folding.

Yessir! It’s got an RTX 2060 card in it, which is an absolute monster of a card. It’s got something like 2-3x more transistors per GPU than previous graphics cards. It’s the first consumer card to do real time ray tracing. I guess whatever math is normally associated with that also happens to mesh well with folding.
Quadros are fantastic cards, which is why I’m happy to get the old laptop running again. But like you said, they are good for lots of stuff, just not folding. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed that it didn’t fare a bit better. But I’ll let it fold for a while, and then see what else I can do with it. I’d love to get SolidWorks back on it (the Quadro excels at that) and get back into 3D modeling.

Quadro is fantastic for stuff like Photoshop. Not so much for folding.
